Interviews : Interview with Todd Evans of Mobile Deathcamp

Interviews Let's get the bitchin' out of the way first... I don't care for the Ritz in Warren Michigan. Over priced drinks, and they don't clean their tap lines. This means when you pay too much for the beer it's skunky as hell. This didn't bother me when I was young fool just happy to get a beer legally or otherwise. Maybe it's just that I'm used to dives where I know almost everyone and I don't feel like the oldest guy in the place... maybe it's just my own insecurities... LOL. Nope, can't stand the place and I don't need a specific reason. But if I like the band enough I'll go, grin and bear it. Second, I'm gonna speed past a couple opening acts in a blitzkrieg review.

The first band - you're safe, you get a pass. It was only your second show. None of them looked old enough to be out of high school, so... keep practicing and stick with it. Woden and Front Line Mentality... both bands could have easily changed members around and with little to no effect on the song? Before I go on, let me just say there is only one reason for this - vocals. Freakin' cookie monster vocals. Why oh why are bands still doing this? The music was skull crushing, fierce and original, but this, in what my mind perceives as a musical cop out, ruins what could otherwise be brilliant bands. The cookie monster stuff is what everyone is doing, so why do it? It's as passe to me as high pitched screeching was come 1989. Wait 10 or 15 years then try that again... it'll come back.

Young bands would do well to take a page out of Grommet's book, who delivered a strong, highly original blistering set. I don't have a running count on how many times I've seen them over the last couple of years, but the fact that they still impress the hell out of my ADD self is enough. Look at how bands have them on the bill. Two CDs in two years, and they are set to begin work on a 3rd this January.

There is a reason for this kids, they smoke. And Friday night was no different. Rolling thourgh old favorites like Wishy Washy, We Are the Pigs, and Roadside Bomb. Treating us to cuts from the last CD with Migraine and Michigan Aggression, and finally road testing a couple of new ones. STFU which I had the pleasure hearing once before, and what I promise you fans will think is a gem of a tune, Dogs. Can't wait to hear more teasers of the new stuff boys.

Todd Evans (Guitar and Vocals), Boe (Bass) and Cracker (drums) bill themselves as Mobile Deathcamp, and declare it Black Swamp Speed Metal. What you hear is a fresh new take on old school ball kickin' three piece band that easily flattens most metal and punk bands around these day, new school and old school.

The riffs Tood peels off while vocalizing the sonic madness of Black Swamp Rising is pure entertainment to watch and to hear. You like your metal fresh? Original? Backed up with street cred (yes, Todd was Beefcake the Almighty in GWAR) and bone crunching riffs? Check out Mobile Deathcamp.

Todd Evans was gracious enough to spend some time with globalpunkreview.com and discuss the road, the music, and Star Wars...enjoy.
